How can something so small cause so many grown-ups such great difficulty in Life? And what analogies to this Tiny Little Ball can we make about Life?
A golf ball you may ask? Some of us don’t even play golf! But we do understand some aspects of the game. We will try to put a Tiny, some say silly, Little Ball in an equally tiny little hole some distance away from where we now stand. Don’t use your hands. Instead hit it with a “club”.
Why? Why would someone ask you to do such a thing. And pay money, often lots of money to do it. Oh, They say it’s a Gentleman’s game !
Well could we compare, the game we call golf using that Tiny Little Ball to trying to park your car in New York or London. First you need to find one free spot in some distant park garage then later try to both remember where you put the car, pay the fees, and find your way out of the city. Isn’t that a bit like this game. Putting the ball in one distant spot, trying to find where you hit the ball off course and finally finding your way to the 18th hole, all in the same day. For the parking endeavour we would gladly opt out like this creature. Should the same be said about Golf ?
Some would say it’s not that hard. All you do is hit that ball 3 or 4 times, get it up on the green then putt it in the hole. Do that 18 times while getting around a park like environ and you are done for the day. Some good exercise and a beer is all that is needed.
Then why do we see guys who get paid to jump into the pond several times yearly with special suits (diving) to collect our missed shots and re-sell the Tiny Little Ball. Never to have heard the cries or shouts of those who hit the Tiny Little Ball into those ponds firsthand.
So why should we stray onto that land with club in hand.
Because it is beautiful and relaxing!
Indeed the manicured beauty of these spots which dot the landscape plenty is not to be denied. While the cost of these oasis may be more than a trifle. The magic of form and color will be cast into your eyes and mind forever, luring you to that oasis ever again and again.
So next time you are in a “Sand trap” trying to find the tiny little hole for your Tiny Little Ball remember that Life can be like golfing from the sand. It can gobble you up and spit you out or you can get out with a good approach. While in golf you make the decision as to how to play the ball either, long or short, flop or bump and run. So in Life you get to play it as it lies or try the trick shot as needed.
And if you cross the land with BEAR IN HAND give him that Tiny Little Ball.
THE END
Enjoy the Day. Best of Luck to All Those competing in Today’s Finish to the Ryder Cup.
